Five ingredients for brighter skin

Five ingredients for brighter skin

There are many things that can lead to your skin appearing dull and lacklustre. Dryness, dehydration, tiredness, a bout of illness, or even just an ineffective skincare routine.

If your skin is looking dull and tired, here are five skincare ingredients that will help to restore radiance and give you brighter, healthier skin.

1. Vitamin C

It's hard to beat Vitamin C for skin brightening. As well as being a powerful radiance booster, it is also a very effective antioxidant and skin regenerator. Remember, antioxidants fight the free radicals that age and damage skin cells, and so are vital for a healthy skincare routine.

2. Sea Buckthorn

These vibrant orange berries contains Vitamins B1, B2, B6, K, E and C, many of which of powerful antioxidants. Sea Buckthorn is rich in beta-carotenes which are precursor to Vitamin A (retinol). Vitamin A is amazing for your skin, helping to stimulate tissue regeneration and collagen production. Imagine collagen as a building block of your skin, as we age it depletes and this means our skin loses its elasticity and firmness. Sea buckthorn is an invaluable ingredient for reviving the skin, that's why we use an extract of it in the Tri-Elixir.

3. Honey

As well as its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, honey has a wonderfully gentle enzymatic action. Enzymes very gently exfoliate the skin and remove dead skin cells, leaving a brighter, fresher complexion behind. Try blending a teaspoon of honey and natural yoghurt with a couple of drops of Tri-Elixir and applying as a radiance face mask for 5 minutes.

 4. AHAs (Alpha hydroxy acids)

Alpha hydroxy acids are usually found in the form of skincare toners or occasionally masks. They remove dead skin cells, promote cell turn over and can improve the appearance of fine lines and skin tone. They are an effective way to exfoliate because they do so in a very even manner without the risk of micro tears to the skin. AHAs include lactic acid, glycolic acid, mandelic acid, citric acid, tartaric and malic acid. Many products containing AHAs can be quite powerful, they only require use a couple of times a week, and should be followed up with sunscreen.

5. Ceramides

Whilst the ingredients we've spoken about so far, will work to directly brighten the skin, we mention ceramides for their ability to improve and protect the integrity of the skin as a whole. No matter what your skin concern may be, always considering the skin barrier and keeping it in tip top condition will help with every concern. The oat extract found in the Alchemy 7 Comfort Balm is a natural source of ceramides and will protect and revive dull skin, even skin tone, hydrate, soften fine lines, and boost skin vitality.
